About Dataprana

Dataprana is a North American digital infrastructure company focused on AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center development. With a large energized site pipeline across multiple U.S. states and an ambitious multi-gigawatt roadmap, we are building a distributed network of mid-scale, modular data centers optimized for speed-to-market deployment. We provide the infrastructure backbone for current and future data center needs, with the ability to deploy faster and leaner than traditional developers by focusing on land acquisition, power strategy, permitting, and rapid energization.

Our mission is to pioneer the future of AI infrastructure through sustainable, efficient solutions that deliver long-term value to our clients, partners, and team. Building on proven expertise in power strategy and operational excellence, Dataprana is positioned to become a leader in AI/HPC data centers across the United States.

About the Role

The Civil Engineer, Data Center Site Design is a hands-on internal engineer / project manager who owns early-stage site design for Dataprana’s AI/HPC data centers. You will turn raw land and utility information into fast, high-confidence go/no-go decisions by producing integrated civil and electrical concepts that de-risk projects before capital is committed.

Working closely with power, development, and partnerships teams, you will create initial layouts, translate utility and municipal requirements into buildable designs, and surface fatal flaws early. This role is ideal for a builder who moves quickly, thrives at the whiteboard and in CAD, and understands how smart upfront design directly impacts speed to market and bankability.

Key Outcomes

  • Develop first-pass site plans that integrate building footprints, access, grading, and drainage, including zoning exhibits and preliminary stormwater concepts to support land control decisions.
  • Produce “Day 0” electrical concepts, including single-line diagrams and indicative pole, substation, and electrical routing aligned with utility standards and Dataprana design patterns.
  • Translate utility standards, interconnection requirements, and protection philosophies into clear, actionable civil and electrical design criteria for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess local codes, zoning ordinances, and permitting pathways to ensure early concepts are compliant and to flag approval risks before the company advances spend.
  • Critical Issues Assessment: Identify fatal flaws in candidate sites (e.g., zoning, noise, wetlands, stormwater and drainage constraints, infeasible pole routes, right-of-way conflicts, or constructability challenges) and clearly document risks and mitigations.
  • Build a repeatable early-design playbook that allows Dataprana to quickly and efficiently validate site feasibility.
  • Partner with development and power leads to refine promising sites into shovel-ready concepts that can be advanced into formal engineering and utility review.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil Engineering; basic working knowledge of electrical principles is a plus, but civil expertise is the core discipline for this role.
  • 5+ years of experience in data center or critical infrastructure design, with direct exposure to high-density AI/HPC power and cooling layouts – preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or similar software) for site planning, grading, and utility coordination, plus familiarity with electrical system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating zoning boards, planning commissions, and municipal review processes, including preparation of zoning and entitlement exhibits.
  • Track record working with utilities on technical reviews, interconnection studies, or service extensions, including coordination around pole lines, substations, and protective schemes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple early-stage sites in parallel, prioritize based on risk and impact, and communicate design tradeoffs clearly to non-engineers.

Who You Are

  • You’re a hands-on recruiter who enjoys both building simple systems and doing the actual sourcing and closing in a lean, founder-led company.
  • You’re energized by founder-led, fast-changing environments and are comfortable bringing structure where there isn’t much yet.
  • You like working across very different profiles (executive, technical, operations) and can context-switch quickly without dropping details.
  • You care about candidate experience and pride yourself on clear, timely communication — even when delivering “no” decisions.
  • You’re data-aware (if not a data geek), and you naturally translate your pipeline into simple, useful signals for leadership.

Ideal Candidate

  • Prior experience in data center development, grid-connected energy projects, or large industrial sites with complex drainage and grading requirements.
  • Familiarity with permitting and environmental review considerations that affect early site design (stormwater, wetlands, floodplains, and similar constraints).
  • Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where you help define standards, templates, and processes from scratch.

Ideal Candidate

  • Primary Location: Remote (Texas preferred)
  • Travel Requirements: Moderate travel as needed for site visits and pre-development meetings

Compensation

  • Base: $125,000 – $150,000 annually (Depending on experience and qualifications)
  • Bonus: Up to 15% of base salary
  • Unlimited PTO, subject to Company policy
  • 6 paid US holidays
  • Professional training reimbursement
